The Craft Guild of Chefs has announced the winners of its Graduate Awards 2007.

Steven Wilson, demi chef de partie at the House of Commons, was named the top achiever in the Craft Guild of Chefs’ culinary examinations for working chefs under the age of 23.

Mark Froydenlund, from Westminster Kingsway College, was the only other chef out of 12 finalists to achieve the 85% pass mark this year.

The winners were announced at a graduation ceremony held at the Royal Garden Hotel, London. Finalists who did not make the grade were encouraged to re-enter the competition next year.

Steve Munkley, vice-president of the Guild and chairman of the Awards, said: “All the entrants this year were at an excellent standard but the 12 finalists showed extra ability to carry them through to the final. They showed great skills in the kitchen and in their written work.”

Meanwhile, tickets are still available for Future Chef – Back to the Kitchen, taking place on 25 October. The Restaurant Associates event will see four regional finalists of Future Chef cook a four-course meal at the Goodenough College, Bloomsbury.

Tickets cost £85 each, or £1,020 for a table of 12. Proceeds go to Springboard, a charity which aims to connect young people, the unemployed and disadvantaged groups with the hospitality industry. To book call 020 7497 8654 or e-mail samc@springboarduk.co.uk.
