Gordon Ramsay's flagship London restaurant on Royal Hospital Road has fallen off the top spot in the 2006 Good Food Guide, published next week (20 October).

The Chelsea restaurant had retained the highest accolade of 10 out of 10 for cooking for the past three years, but has now dropped a place to nine.

Marcus Wareing's Pétrus restaurant, in London, has been promoted from seven to eight out of 10, along with Ynyshir Hall in Eglwysfach, which also secured the Wales restaurant of the year award.

Also in London, Pied à Terre managed to score eight out of 10, despite being closed for much of the past year.

New in at seven points was Nigel Platts-Martin and Philip Howard's Ledbury restaurant in Notting Hill, which also took the title of London restaurant of the year.

Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon, and the Vineyard at Stockcross were both demoted from eight to seven marks.

Yarmouth's George hotel finally got recognition for its fine-dining restaurant and was awarded seven points, along with St Ervan Manor in Padstow, where former Black Pig chef-proprietor Nathan Outlaw is now working as head chef.

Bellamy's scored five and was named London newcomer of the year, while Scotland restaurant of the year went to Martin Wishart in Edinburgh.
