I have nine years' experience in hotels, pubs and restaurants, especially in front office management. I'd now like to teach in the further education sector, having completed an entry<2011>level certificate in adult learning. What do I do next?
The Answer
I would start contacting your local college about vacancies; buy the Times Educational Supplement; and maybe look at NVQ assessing, where you go and deliver NVQs and assess students at work instead of a college. You would benefit from having basic health and safety, food hygiene, D32/33 (A, C or V units), and any other relevant industry qualifications. Food preparation and cooking experience is normally required for the role. The Hotel and Catering Training Company and VT Plus Training are two of the biggest providers in the UK.
