Pet friendly hotels growing in popularity in USA

Friday 13 October 2006 12:21

Pet friendly hotels are dramatically increasing in popularity in America, with more than 13,000 hotels now catering to pampered pooches.

Research from the American Automobile Association (AAA) found that pet-friendly properties had increased 28% in number since 1999.

And giving paws for thought, AAA found 19% of Americans now take their pets with them on their travels.

Getting in on the act, the Four Seasons Atlanta hotel provides a newsletter detailing nearby parks for dog-walking, plus numbers for services like doggie daycare, grooming and even a room service menu a $120 (£64) caviar and salmon spread— just for dogs.

Denise Flanders, the general manager of the Atlanta Four Seasons, said: “People are travelling more with their families whether it be their parents, their children or their pets.”

In New York the Loews Regency hotel offers hungry hounds a special placemat, food bowls and a toy on arrival.

At the Peaks Resort and Golden Door Spa in Telluride, Colorado dogs can get "paw"dicures and massages.

2. San Antonio
3. Austin
