Royal Lancaster hotel enjoys double win in Considerate Hotelier awards

London’s Royal Lancaster hotel scooped two accolades at the Considerate Hotelier awards ceremony yesterday.

The Hyde Park hotel was recognised for its progress in the areas of energy and water conservation, waste minimisation and use of sustainable British food.

The Royal Lancaster was also named winner of the WRAP challenge for reducing the volume of landfill waste generated per guest per night by half.

Clare Wright, purchasing manager at the Royal Lancaster, said: "We are absolutely delighted. We've done a lot of work thorough the hotel and it's really been a team effort. We've made huge strides in looking at reducing energy and waste and assessing the use of our resources."

Liam Lambert, chairman of the Considerate Hoteliers Association, said: "With the environmental debate currently raging over climate change, it is great to see so many hotels taking the initiative and showing what can be achieved by applying a common sense approach.”

The awards were announced at the Master Innholders General Manager’s Conference at the Dorchester hotel.

In addition The Envirowise challenge went jointly to The Crowne Plaza London St James hotel and 51 Buckingham Gate. The Novotel London Waterloo hotel took the honours in the Hospitable Climates Challenge and London’s One Aldwych hotel and Stratton’s Hotel in Norfolk received Oxford Brookes Hospitality Sustain Challenge accords.
