Work has begun on a £100m development in the west of Scotland centred around an eco-friendly hotel.

The hotel and resort, named Allseasons at the Meadows, complete with solar panels and wind turbines, will take five years to complete.

Landowners Andrew and Jennifer Malcolm are aiming to time its opening to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the birth of poet Robert Burns and the British Open golf championship.

The luxury 20-40 bedroom hotel will be built on the waterfront around a 25-acre man-made loch surrounded by New England-style lodges. Facilities will include a restaurant, a coffee shop bistro, garden centre and place to watch wildlife or retreat.

The project is currently made up by private investment, but leaves the door open for other potential investors with an interest in hotel and private holiday homes.

Andrew Malcolm said: “This development will be a first for Scotland in terms of providing an environmentally led tourist destination.

“We want to enhance the ecological beauty of the area and preserve and promote the natural assets of south-west Scotland including the history and culture of the local area.”
