Firmdale Hotels is to open the first of several planned boutique hotels outside the UK in New York City this summer.

The 86-bedroom Crosby Street hotel will launch in September in New York’s SoHo district.

Although the Crosby Street – a £30m plus investment - was originally set to open in November 2008, the project has been pushed back until September after an option to extend the site became available.

The new build hotel will comprise a ground-floor bar and restaurant, a central garden, private event and meeting rooms, a 100-seat cinema and a gym.

The general manager Jakob Hansen will move from Frimdale’s Charlotte Street hotel in London to take up his new role.

Firmdale, which is owned by Tim and Kit Kemp, is looking at up to three hotels in New York City, all in Manhattan.

The company’s London hotels comprise the Haymarket; the Soho; Charlotte Street; Covent Garden; Knightsbridge; the Pelham and Number Sixteen. Hotel restaurants include Brumus, Refuel, Brasserie Max and Kemps.
