Restaurant agrees to cover sign over 'Easy' logo

An Indian restaurant has been forced to cover up its signs and restaurant logos because of a legal fight with the EasyGroup, the owner of EasyJet.

The EasyCurry restaurant in Northampton, which opened four weeks ago, upset the EasyGroup because of its bright orange, white and black signage and a typeface similar to the multimillion-pound company.

Naz Uddin, managing director at EasyCurry, initially vowed to fight the legal action, insisting that no-one should have the right to own a word, but he has now backed down, citing potential costs.

“Inside, we’ve covered up the menus,” he said. “We’re a restaurant without a name at the moment. We’ve just got stickers on the menus, and that’s it. You can’t just change things overnight.”

The restaurant now plans to change its signs next week ahead of a re-launch.

EasyGroup’s website warns that it will take action against anyone misusing "our name and our reputation". The company has, in previous years, threatened action against the likes of auto-rental company EasyCar and web-hosting firm Easyspace.
