Laurel Pub Company, which swallowed up Yates Group and most of SFI this year, could ditch up to a third of its 15 brands as it seeks to refocus.
The high-street consolidator has recruited retail consultants OCC to review the enlarged business, which now stands at 420 pubs and 8,700 employees.
It could mean that some well-known names such as Yates, Ha! Ha! Bar and Canteen, Slug & Lettuce, Litten Tree and Hogs Head are phased out as the three business come together.
Laurel chief executive Julian Sargeson said: "We'll be looking at having a single-figure number of brands at the end of the process, with three to four identified brands that we will really push."
Sargeson has also set a mid-term target of growing food sales from the existing 11% of turnover to 20%.
Other Laurel brands include Fiesta Havana, Bar med, Bar Me, unbranded Tavern and the Santa Fe and Forno restaurant formats.
