Visitor numbers on rollercoaster

Numbers of overseas visitors to the UK between May and August rose by 8% year-on-year to 6.6 million, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

However, this was down by 2% on the previous three months to May. The amount spent by overseas travellers between June and August totalled £3.1b, up by 2% on the previous three months and 7% higher than a year ago.
