3663, First for Foodservice, has teamed up with Frigoblock refrigeration systems in a joint venture that saves more than 12,000 tonnes of CO2 per year – the equivalent amount of CO2 produced by 7,689 passengers flying return between London and New York.
All 3663’s trucks are kitted with state of the art Frigoblock refrigeration units. The fridges don’t need an extra diesel engine to power them, instead running on electricity, which comes from a generator run off the extra efficient truck engines fitted in all 3663’s trucks.
Graham Rennie, director of fleet at 3663, said: ‘With a fleet of over 1,100 vehicles it is our responsibility to do as much as we can to reduce our carbon footprint, while delivering frozen, fresh and chilled goods to our customers in first class condition. The Frigoblock refrigeration system allows us to achieve both of these goals successfully.
‘Not only do the fridges meet 3663’s high standards as far as their performance is concerned, they also conform to European emissions guidelines. The units create less noise than standard fridge units; they reduce our fuel consumption and reduce oxides of nitrogen and CO2 emissions.’
Studies show that every litre of diesel burnt produces 2.68 kg of CO2 . The new refrigeration system significantly reduces CO2 emissions, resulting in over 31% fewer emissions than if we ran a conventional system, which would annually pump almost 18,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Graham Rennie said: ‘We have cut our CO2 emissions dramatically and we are working on a number of other initiatives to further our green credentials.’
