The British Hospitality Association (BHA) is hosting a conference next month to showcase Salsa, an initiative set up to help local suppliers sell their goods nationally.
Salsa seeks to help small and local food and drink producers demonstrate, at a reasonable cost, that they meet the standards expected by national buyers.
Launched recently by the BHA, British Retail Consortium, Food and Drink Federation and National Farmers Union it is sponsored by the Food Standards Agency.
The BHA will be hosting a Salsa stakeholders meeting at its London offices on 17 January. For more information call 020 7404 7744 or e-mail keris.marsden@bha.org.uk
Both food service company 3663 and contract caterer Elior have endorsed the new scheme and so far 480 online registrations with the scheme have been made and 125 members are currently working towards approval.
A spokesman for 3663 said: “The scheme will help us to continue to support local producers, as part of our dedicated commitment to provide our customers with local produce.”
