There is only a week left for hospitality businesses to sign up to a free scheme designed to help them save money by minimising their water usage, the Forum of Private Business warned today.

The six-month initiative, dubbed Rippleffect, was set up by government-funded Envirowise to provide independent and practical advice to businesses on minimising waste water and becoming more environmentally friendly.

In July, Envirowise research that revealed that hotels and restaurants in England were wasting up to £400,000 a day collectively due to water inefficiency.

“Applying for this scheme should be at the top of all small businesses owners’ to-do lists," said Miranda Allan, the FPB’s environmental adviser. “Envirowise is unusual for government-backed environmental assistance programmes, in that it is long-lived, universally accessible and it actually works."

Nick Palin, the FPB’s director of finance and administration, added: "This could really help those small firms that are looking for ways to cut costs. Given the fact that the economic downturn looks set to worsen before it gets better, the FPB is advising its members to apply now before it is too late."

Register here. Registration closes on 10 September.
