Restaurants accused in row over obesity

Restaurants were last week criticised for contributing to the growing problem of obesity in the UK, sparking calls for nutritional information to be included on menus. London restaurants like the Ivy and the Fifth floor at Harvey Nichols were singled out in a London Evening Standard investigation which exposed the extent of hidden calories in apparently diet-friendly options.

Domino's Pizza outlets top 300

Domino's Pizza hit its target and opened 50 new take-away restaurants in the UK last year, bringing its total number of outlets to 318. The company will announce its preliminary year-end results next month.

McDonald's installs wi-fi access points

Fast-food chain McDonald's has teamed up with BT to install wi-fi access points in more than 500 restaurants by the end of March. This will enable those with wi-fi enabled laptops or PDAs to log on to the internet while slurping their Coke and munching through a Big Mac.

Restaurateur starts earthquake appeal

Cardiff restaurateur Babak Arabastani has set up a charity to help the victims of the Bam earthquake disaster in Iran. The owner of restaurants Signor Valentino and Bistro 10, both in Cardiff Bay, has donated £5,000 to the fund.

Anyone else who would like to make a contribution can make their cheques payable to Restoration of Bam City Fund and send to 28 Churchill Way, Cardiff CF10 2DY.
