The 130-seat River restaurant at London's Savoy hotel closed for good last weekend.
A spokeswoman for the hotel said a "business decision" had been taken to close the eaterie. "The hotel's management feel that the space would be more profitably used by creating an area that can be used exclusively for private parties."
The restaurant will be redesigned while the downstairs Thames Foyer will undergo a "multimillion pound" refurb to transform it into "a luxurious all-day dining area" similar to the foyer at the group's Claridge's hotel.
The closure of the River restaurant follows the revamp of the Savoy Grill last year under chef Marcus Wareing and the opening of the diner-style Banquette restaurant in place of the former oyster bar.
