Peros' Peter Goodey and James Roberts with their Global Ethics award

Peros, the leading supplier of Fairtrade beverages and similar products to the hospitality trade, has had a successful holiday season in winning awards.

The company succeeded twice in the Thames Valley Business magazine awards – first it was named as the winner of the ‘Business Management Team of the Year’ category, then received a ‘highly commended’ in the ‘SME of the Year’ category.

It is the company’s work in supporting water supply schemes in Africa that led to the third award. This is the Global Ethics Life Changing Award, presented by the organisation which devised the ‘play pump’, a kind of children’s roundabout which serves also as a well to draw water for rural communities.

Global Ethics is the organisation which creates and installs the pumps, and which has put almost three million pounds into the scheme – Peros has committed to giving the profits from sales of One Water, a bottled water brand, to play pumps, and has now paid for 67 of them.

Meanwhile, Peros has published its new catalogue of Fairtrade and ethically-sourced products in which it launches the One World range of Fairtrade confectionery.

A novel feature of this is that the range of muffins also includes a Fairtrade Eccles cake – it is not the first in the market, but is said to be larger than most.

In response to a suggestion from Coffee House magazine, director James Roberts has been inspired to the idea that a company mission from now on should be to have Eccles declared a Fairtrade Town!

Peros is also about to launch a new range of Fairtrade coffees, branded Eros.
