JD Wetherspoon is to give customers information on the provenance of its food, making available local sourcing and nutritional information to customers in its pubs.

From today customers of the pub chain will be able to pick up a free booklet with information on the ingredients used in the meals served as well as details of the suppliers it uses.

Wetherspoon head of catering, Rebecca Payton, said: “Our pubs use high-quality ingredients and offer both regional dishes and locally-sourced ingredients.”

“We are also committed to healthy eating and the booklet highlights, amongst other things, five-a-day tips, food dishes that contain 5% fat or less and organic children’s meals,” she said.

Wetherspoon’s cooks get through 13 million free-range eggs and 15 million Lincolnshire sausages a year, and only use 100% British beef for burgers and dolphin-friendly or line-caught tuna.
