Third win for World Service restaurant

Wednesday 15 June 2005 10:59

World Service has scooped the title of Restaurant of the Year in the Nottingham Restaurant Awards 2005.

The restaurant, which opened on Castle Gate in 2000, took the top spot for the third consecutive year.

Best European Restaurant went to Café Bleu, based in Newark, while Best Non-European was a dead heat between Chino Latino and Memsaab.

Best Small Restaurant (for under 50 covers) went to La Toque, which is located in the heart of Beeston and took the award for the second year on the trot.

Hart’s, owned by hotelier and restaurateur Tim Hart, took the award for Best Business Lunch and the former Pierre Victoire, Le Bistrot Pierre was awarded Best Value for Money, voted for by the public.

Hart also won the Big Table Outstanding Achievement Award, who has been the restaurateur and hotelier at Hambleton Hall for 25 years.

Langar Hall took the prize for Best Local Produce Menu, a new award this year that recognises chefs and restaurateurs who effectively use their local larder.

Other awards went to Merchants for Best Drinks/Wine Menu and Best Service; Geisha for Best Newcomer; Langar Hall for Best Out of Town restaurant; and Cast for Central News Viewers’ Restaurant.

The Nottinghamshire Young Chef of the Year title, new this year and the brainchild of local chef-restaurateur Sat Bains, went to Thomas Robertson of Le Bistrot Pierre.
