Top 10 travel tips

Thursday 15 June 2006 00:00
1. Change your bed linen and have a quick tidy up to make returning home a pleasure.

2. Divide your clothes and your partner's between both cases so that if one bag is lost your weekend won't be.

3. If you are going somewhere with great shopping, take half the luggage you'll need and twice the cash.

4. Tell your bank you are off on your travels, so that your debit/credit cards are not frozen when unusual shopping patterns are spotted.

5. Arrange your car hire in advance over the internet.

6. Take those foreign coins you have in your change bowl at home. They come in handy when you first arrive.

7. Dab on some lavender oil during the flight: you'll sleep better, and smell good, too.

8. Always carry water with you on the plane to avoid dehydration.

9. Try to change your cash during bank opening hours, as some bureaux de change offer a less competitive rate when banks are shut.

10. Request a corner bedroom, as these are often bigger, with double views.
