Pubs to get anti-terrorism guidance

Pubs across the UK are to receive guidance to counter the threat of terrorism.

Produced by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) the literature provides safety advice for publicans straight from ACPO’s National Counter Terrorism Security Office.

The advice was produced following consultation with bodies including the British Beer & Pub Association, the Bar, Entertainment and Dance Association and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Jim Maietta from the ACPO National Counter Terrorism Security Office said: “All licensed premises across the country have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their staff and customers.”

Advice to publicans includes searching their premises inside and out before, during and after opening hours; having an evacuation plan; and reporting suspicious activity.
