Avenance takes the biscuit
Avenance has won a one-year rolling contract to feed 1,200 staff at biscuit manufacturer Burton’s Foods. The contract, which has an annual turnover of £750,000, starts in September. Avenance already provides catering for Burton’s Foods staff at sites in South Wales and the Wirral, but will now also feed employees in Blackpool and Edinburgh.
RPM extends at Fiddlers
Resource & Procurement Management has been awarded the contract to provide catering services at Fiddlers Ferry Power Station in Widness, Cheshire. The group has been feeding building contractors at the power station since March and will now also cater for 500 staff who were previously fed by Eurest. The combined contracts have an annual turnover of £260,000.
New KFCs take flight with Welcome Break
Motorway service operator Welcome Break has invested £1.6m in opening five new KFC fast food restaurants at its sites in Fleet, Hampshire, Burtonwood in Cheshire, Michaelwood in Gloucestershire, Membury in Wiltshire and Corley in Warwickshire. A total of 100 new jobs have been creates as a result of the openings.
Call for free school meals
Labour MP Ronnie Campbell is calling for free school meals for any child from a home where the annual income is less than £13,230. Campbell said that guidelines set by the Department for Education and Skills that exclude people claiming working tax credit from applying for free school meals for their child was unfair.
