Accent Catering has been awarded a three-year contract by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to manage its all-day café which is open to both staff and members of the public.

The deal, worth £170,000 a year, will see the caterer take responsibility for breakfast, lunch and vending services plus any internal hospitality requirements serving the 200 staff and hundreds of visitors that regularly visit the café.

The contract award came as a direct response to the findings of a staff survey carried out earlier in the year which included calls for fresh food, longer opening hours, more flexible menus and better coffee.

Gordon Haggarty, managing director at Accent, said: ”These improvements will help to increase uptake - particularly at weekends when there are around 500 people on site hoping to re-home a dog or cat.

“In addition we hope the atmosphere in the café will encourage staff from all levels and departments to come and eat good homemade fresh food every day.”

Accent will also undertake a refurbishment of the café décor with new furniture, ventilation, outdoor seating areas and improved lighting and service counters.

The firm will also manage the transfer of existing staff under TUPE regulations and implement an induction training programme.
