Hoteliers set up for East London hotel group

General managers of hotels in east London have set up a group similar to the West One group of hoteliers to discuss issues in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics.

The East London Hotel group, which had its first meeting at the Andaz Liverpool Street on 18 September, is backed by British Hospitality Association (BHA).
 
Current members are the Andaz, City Crowne Plaza, Four Seasons - Canary Wharf, the Hoxton, London Bridge Hotel, London Marriott - Canary Wharf, Malmaison, One Aldwych, Renaissance Chancery Court, Threadneedle, Waldorf, Apex, and The Zetter.

Justin Pinchbeck, general manager of the Zetter hotel in Farringdon, was elected of chairman of the group which will meet once a month.

“There’s a growing number of hotels based in east London and with the Olympics approaching, there are likely to be more,” he told Caterersearch. “We want to bring them all together to discuss common issues and goals.”

Bob Cotton, chief executive of the BHA, said he hoped that the group would emulate the success of West One, which brings together central London hoteliers.

“Now that there are so many hotels on the eastern side of the capital, we are delighted that hoteliers in the area are getting together in the same way,” he said.

“The 2012 Olympic Games will be a massive event. The more east London hotels work together, the better it will be.”

Meanwhile, Cotton has been in touch with Downing Street to discuss whether the sort of relief negotiated during last year’s floods, such as a moratorium on tax payments, could be brought into play to help hospitality operators hit by the credit crunch.
