Simon Hulstone to lead senior British Culinary Olympics team

Simon Hulstone at the Knorr Chef of the Year competition

Simon Hulstone, the recently crowned Knorr National Chef of the Year, is leading the senior British team to The Culinary Olympics, which begins in Erfurt, Germany on Sunday.

The Culinary Olympics, widely considered as the most prestigious culinary competition in the world, attracted chefs from 38 nations, across five continents at the last event in 2004. 

This year marks the first appearance by a Senior British Culinary Olympic team since 1992.

Team members are:
 
Simon Hulstone (captain), chef patron, Elephant Restaurant, Torquay
Mark Hill, executive chef, House of Commons
Mark Fitzmaurice, chef director, Veg First
Andrew Ditchford, pastry chef, House of Commons
Alan Baker-Green, executive chef, Compass Government Services
David Galpin, programme co-ordinator, Craft Skills, South Devon College
Roger Hulstone, head chef, Rainbow International Hotel, Torquay. 
Back-up organising team: Ken Fraser and Rod Naylor.

The last time Hulstone competed against the world in the World Youth Skill Olympics in 1995 in Lyon, France, he won Gold, achieving the highest marks across all the different trades. 

The Junior British Culinary Olympic Team is also competing. Team members are: Ben Arnold (recent winner of Robbie Millar Scholarship in Northern Ireland); Selin Kazim; Charlotte Sharpe; Jay Barnard and James Burger.

They are supported by Simon Stocker and Vince Cottam at Westminster Kingsway College. 

Team sponsors are Electrolux Professional, Churchill China and Heinz Food Service.
