World-renowned French chef Alain Ducasse will open a restaurant at the Dorchester in September, the hotel has confirmed to Caterer and Hotelkeeper.

The restaurant, which will be called Ducasse at the Dorchester, will seat 70 and occupy the area where the Terrace private dining room is currently located. It will also include a small private dining area.

General manager Christopher Cowdray said: "We are thrilled to welcome Alain Ducasse to the Dorchester. It will be a wonderful addition to the hotel."

Refurbishment work will start in May but the hotel refused to reveal how much will be spent.

Executive chef Henry Brosi, who will run the hotel’s remaining food and beverage operations, told Caterer that the September start date could be pushed back if the project overshoots.

Former Danesfield House hotel executive chef Aiden Byrne became head chef of the Dorcheter’s Grill restaurant last October.

In the run up to the appointment a Dorchester spokesman denied industry rumours Ducasse would also be joining.
