A catering college is to open at Northcliffe House, the former headquarters of the Daily Mail newspaper in the City of London, in May.
Williams College has signed a new 25-year lease on the 10,000 sq ft ground floor and basement unit of the building on Tudor Street.
The college will run a new NVQ course in the kitchen and the students will serve a menu of fusion French food to the public in the adjoining restaurant part.
Josh Leon, negotiator at property agent Davis Coffer Lyons, which handled the deal, said: “We had to think outside the box to find a suitable tenant that would work in this location as the space did not lend itself to a normal restaurant and bar format.
“It was on three levels, with the majority of the space at sub basement. The premises had been partly fitted with a very large kitchen that could accommodate the college’s students and there was also space for a restaurant or bar space next door which fitted perfectly with the college’s requirements.”
Williams College will start the refurbishing process in March with the view to open the first week in May.
