Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is being forced to rename his home-made "mini cornetto" puddings after a run-in with Unilever, owner of Wall’s, which makes the more famous Cornetto ice-creams.

Ramsay’s Boxwood Café in the Berkeley Hotel, in London's Knightsbridge, had been offering the £6 ice-creams to customers, selling about 150 a week, but has now had to remove them from the menu after Unilever lawyers fired off a stern letter.

In a statement, Unilever said: “Unilever’s UK legal team asked them to stop use of the name Cornetto for the pudding and received a telephone call from the restaurant apologising and stating that they had removed the name from their menu and website.

"Unilever is not taking any action in court against Mr Ramsay or his company.”

Ramsay himself has insisted he was improving the Cornetto brand name, but had to bow to the inevitable.

A spokeswoman stressed the ice-cream would be returning to the menu but as yet no new name had been agreed.
