Pub trade agrees to new responsibility action plan with Government

Tuesday 16 May 2006 16:49

Pub bosses have agreed a new responsibility action plan with Government ministers aimed at continuing to improve industry standards.

Agreed with the Home Office at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the plan focuses on four areas:

1) To seek to eliminate sales to under 18s.
2) Continued implementation of the Challenge 21 initiative designed to ensure younger customers understand no age ID means no sale.
3) To tackle and drive down sales to people who are drunk.
4) To impress on Government the long-standing plans in place to ensure a well-managed World Cup this summer.

The industry action plan will be supported by increased enforcement activity by the police and trading standards officers and local authority licensing teams.

Rob Hayward, chief executive, British Beer and Pub Association, said: “This action plan with Government shows our sector’s determination to tackle and solve problems and continue to improve practice.”
