Liverpool tourist board the Merseyside Partnership has revealed the first three restaurants to win accreditation to the Taste Liverpool scheme.

Ego restaurant, 60 Hope Street and Geisha are the first eateries to pick up the new accreditation, which recognises establishments that demonstrate excellent customer service, cleanliness and food quality.

Around 20 restaurants are currently awaiting the results of their mystery inspection. The scheme, modelled on the existing Taste Lancashire initiative, has two tiers of accreditation on offer.

Restaurants that score 60% to 79% in the independent assessment receive Quality Assured status. Those that score 80% or more are granted Taste Liverpool Highest Quality Assured accreditation.

Restaurants that use and promote locally-sourced produce additionally receive a Made in the North West accreditation.

Graham Morphy-Morris from Taste scheme assessor Quality in Tourism said: “It is very encouraging to see the diversity and quality of restaurants and local produce in and around Liverpool.”
