Operator or investor sought for luxury hotel at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

A hotel operator or investor is being sought to help launch a new 120-bedroom luxury hotel at the Bretton Hall estate, within the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP).

Leeds-based developer Rushbond is submitting a planning application this week for the planned hotel in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, alongside a 100,000sq ft business park.

Set within 500 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland, the hotel will be located within the existing Georgian mansion house of Bretton Hall and a contemporary new building housing a bedroom wing.

Its design has been created by Rushbond working in conjunction with Wakefield architects DLA and London-based hotel consultants EPR.

Jonathan Maud, managing director of Rushbond, said: "The submission of the planning application is an important milestone in our shared vision sympathetically to transform Bretton Hall into a truly stunning hotel/business park opportunity, in a unique landscape, that will attract new businesses to the region and create long term sustainable employment."

Since opening in 1977, YSP has established an international reputation attracting more than 350,000 visitors each year. Wakefield Council acquired the Bretton Hall campus from the University of Leeds in 2006 and YSP has since taken over the management of the estate grounds.

Subject to planning permission, the development will get underway in February 2013 with the hotel due to open at the end of 2014.

Hotel operators or investors interested in finding out more information about the scheme should contact Jon Patrick at Christie & Co on 0113 389 2709 or by e-mailing jon.patrick@christie.com.
