London On Tap, the campaign promoting the capital’s tap water, has unveiled a shortlist of 10 designs for a carafe that is to be rolled out across the capital’s restaurants next year.

The campaign, which was launched by Thames Water and the Mayor of London earlier this year, aims to push the use of tap water at London restaurants and to highlight the impact of bottled water on climate change and the environment.

The winning entry, to be judged by a panel of experts including chef-restaurateur Aldo Zilli and architect Zaha Hadid, will be manufactured and used in restaurants across London from February.

UK bottled water sales volumes have slid 4.7% and sales revenues have fallen 5.1% in the 12 months to mid-August, according to latest statistics from research group Nielsen.

In an effort to address this slide, bottled water companies Danone Waters, Highland Spring and Nestlé Waters have teamed up to launch the Natural Hydration Council to provide information about the economic and social value and impact of bottled water.

“The role of the Natural Hydration Council is to provide consumers with an informed choice on the health and sustainability aspects of naturally sourced water,” said Nick Krzyzaniak, managing director of Danone Waters UK & Ireland.
