Best Places awards – backed by BHA and Best Practice Forum

Tuesday 26 April 2005 20:05

The Caterer Group Best Places to Work in Hospitality awards have been endorsed by the British Hospitality Association (BHA) and the Best Practice Forum.

The awards, which aim to promote recruitment best practice in the UK hospitality industry, mirror the aims of the BHA’s Excellence Through People scheme. The BHA’s scheme is designed to improve how staff are managed and motivated to ensure that they deliver improved services to customers and the businesses they work for.

"We are very happy to be a part of the Caterer Group’s campaign to improve the training and retention of staff in hospitality businesses," said David Battersby, of the Best Practice Forum executive board. "The Best Places To Work In Hospitality awards are a great example of a way in which companies can show their commitment to making the UK hospitality industry a more attractive place to work."

As part of their commitment to the awards, the Best Practice Forum will give all finalists a free Employment Best Practice Benchmarking Report. As well as this, the winners of all the categories will be placed in the Best Practice Forum’s Your First Choice Directory, a listing of companies who have proved that they attract, employ and train staff according to recruitment and employment best practice.

Mark Lewis, editor of Caterer and Hotelkeeper, said: "Encouraging companies to recognise the need to retain staff and train them thoroughly is of major importance to us. To have the British Hospitality Association and Best Practice Forum endorse this view is something we are very proud of. We will continue to promote these issues, in conjunction with the BHA, until such practices become the norm."
