French chef Morgan Meunier has opened a new flagship restaurant in London, with the launch of Morgan M Barbican.
The chef, who opened Morgan M in Islington in 2003, will focus his attention on the new site as the old restaurant is now open for dinner from Wednesday to Friday only.
Launched last week, the new restaurant, located on Long Lane in Smithfield on the former site of the S&M Café, is spread over two floors, comprising a lounge area and 32-seat informal dining room on the ground floor as well as a more formal restaurant space upstairs, which accommodates up to 38 guests.
The kitchen is being overseen by Meunier together with head chef Sylvain Soulard, offering a range of different menus, including a selection of tasting plates served in the bar, comprising smaller versions of signature dishes such as ravioli of snails in Chablis, garlic froth and red wine jus; or seared pressed foie gras with fig caviar and toasted brioche.
Meanwhile the à la carte menu will be served alongside Meunier's signature tasting menus, including a six-course seasonal menu, priced at £50, and the vegetarian garden menu, priced £46.
Meunier started his career at the Michelin-starred L'Eau Sauvage in Bonneville in France and went on to train with a number of three-Michelin-starred chefs, including Michel Guérard, Antoine Westermann and Jacques Lameloise.
He won a Michelin star in 1999 at Monsieur Max in Twickenham and later joined the Admiralty in the Strand as head chef before opening Morgan M in 2003, which currently holds three AA rosettes.
