RSM Tenon starts VAT health checks after HMRC crackdown

Tax consultancy RSM Tenon has started offering VAT health checks to hospitality businesses after the taxman launched a crackdown on tax evasion in the restaurant sector.

Earlier this month, HMRC revealed it was investigating 530 restaurants for tax evasion in London, the North-west and Scotland.

RSM Tenon warned that HMRC was being increasingly aggressive with the application of penalties, even over small errors, and called on firms to take up its health check, which costs £750 (plus VAT).

The check takes places at a business's premises for two hours and includes a review on:

â- VAT coding of sales and purchases
â- Review of the most recently submitted VAT return

Additional work required, such as the submission of a retrospective claim or correction of errors would cost extra.

To set up a VAT health check appointment, contact Ashleigh Halliday on 020 7535 5726, or alternatively e-mail ashleigh.halliday@rsmtenon.com.
