Starwood’s Westin Turnberry Resort in Ayrshire is to host the golf Open Championship in 2009 for the first time in 15 years.

The resort has hosted the event three times - in 1977, 1986 and 1994.

The 138th Open Championship will run from 16-19 July 2009 on the resort’s Ailsa course, a favourite of golfing star Colin Montgomerie.

The Westin Turnberry was also voted Top Golf Resort in the Conde Nast Travellers’ Gold List last year.

"In my six years here so many of the world’s best golfers have told me that they enjoy coming to Turnberry as one of the best Open venues in the world,” said Stewart Selbie, general manager.
