London’s Ledbury has been voted restaurant of the year, at last night’s 2006 Tatler Restaurant Awards.

The Nigel Platts-Martin owned restaurant opened last year under the culinary direction of Australian Brett Graham in his first head-chef role.

Based in Notting Hill, the eatery has been a hit with the critics since opening and is widely tipped to pick up a Michelin star when the latest UK & Ireland guide is released on Friday.

Restaurateur of the Year was Mitchell Tonks of Fishworks, and the most Original Restaurant title went to Richmond’s Petersham Nurseries Café.

The Best Front of House award went to London’s Wilton’s restaurant, and Sally Clarke’s eponymous restaurant in London’s Kensington was recognised as Most Consistently Excellent.

Best Room was awarded to the China Tang by designer David Tang at the Dorchester hotel, London.

The Greyhound gastro pub in Battersea, London, was recognised for Best Wine List.

And Best Newcomer was Galvin, set up by brother s Chris and Jeff Galvin as their first venture last year, which is located just off London’s Baker Street.

Double Michelin-starred Midsummer House in Cambridge won Best Restaurant Outside London.

Antonio and Priscilla Carluccio picked up the Tatler/Louis Roederer Lifetime Achievement Award.
