Back WorldSkills bid hospitality industry urged

World Skills London 2011

The hospitality industry has been urged to back the UK’s bid for the prestigious WorldSkills competition in 2011.

Organising body UK Skills has until the end of this month to put forward its proposal to host the event, and faces competition from France, Sweden and Australia.

UK Skills boss Graeme Hall said: “We believe in competitions to such an extent that we are currently bidding to host the WorldSkills competition. It is the largest skills competition in the world and hosting it here would dramatically enhance the value which we as a nation place on skills.”

Hall said industry support would be crucial to success and urged companies and individuals to visit www.worldskillslondon2011.com and register their support.

Alternatively you can write a letter or call the UK bid office on: 020 7543 1217.

Last year’s competition – it’s held biennally - was hosted in Helsinki and 700 young people from around the world took part.

Despite the relatively low profile of the competition in the UK, chef Clark Crawley and pastry cook Helen Barker finished a credible 10th and 11th in their respective crafts.
