Weekly revpar drops by 3.9% in London hotels

Revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 3.9% in London hotels and by 10.7% in the provinces in the week ending 28 February 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar dropped to £91.58, down from £95.31 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy was unchanged at 78.3% while average daily rate declined by 4% to £116.91.

In the same week, revpar in the regions declined to £43.85, down from £49.12 a year ago thanks to a 3.3 percentage point fall in occupancy to 65% and a 6.2% drop in daily rate to £67.48.

Birmingham fared worse, with a 16% decline in revpar (to £45) on the back of a 3.4 percentage point drop in occupancy and an 11.8% fall in average daily rate.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 28 February fell by 9.3% in London and by 11.7% in the regions. Birmingham hotels experienced a steeper fall in revpar of 16.1%.
