French chef Pierre Gagnaire is returning to Tokyo with the opening of a new restaurant in the Japanese capital this week.
The multi-Michelin-starred chef will open Pierre Gagnaire Tokyo this Friday on the 36th floor of the ANA InterContinental hotel. The move comes after a brief hiatus from Tokyo as he closed his former two-Michelin-starred restaurant in the city following a spat with former investors.
“My idea was to have a restaurant that’s comfortable with its settings, simple and elegant,” Gagnaire said. “Times have changed. It is no longer necessary to make luxury showy.”
Fergus Stewart, regional general manager at ANA InterContinental Tokyo, added: “Since the co-branding, ANA InterContinental Tokyo has gone through a significant repositioning in the last two years.
“The addition of Pierre Gagnaire to our diverse collection of restaurant and bars is an important component in the evolution of the hotel into a five-star landmark and will help to set us apart as a destination for exceptional dining.”
Gagnaire now operates restaurants in London, Dubai, Seoul, Hong Kong and in France’s ski resort of Courchevel as well as his flagship three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris.
He made his US debut last December, with the opening of Twist by Pierre Gagnaire at the new Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas.
