Plans have been revealed for a new £15.5m three-star, 140-bedroom hotel in Hull.
Manor Property Group has applied for just over £3m from the Government's Regional Growth Fund to help finance the building of the property on the site of the former Heaven and Hell nightclub. The balance of funding would come from the private sector.
Mark Bailey of Manor Property Group said there is a recognised demand for quality business and tourism accommodation in Hull.
"We have seen a growing number of events and festivals drawing thousands of visitors to the city," he explained. "There will also be an increased corporate need for hotel and meeting accommodation as a result of a number of growth industries in the area including the development of new offshore wind farm projects."
The hotel, designed by Makin Architecture of Manchester, would create 60 new full-time jobs. It will include a paved garden area on the first floor, a function room, meeting rooms and a gym.
The scheme has been welcomed by Hull City Council.
