Revpar falls by nearly 11% in the provinces

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 5.8% in London and by 10.5% in the provinces in the week ending 30 May 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar declined to £89.80, down from £95.30 in the in the equivalent week of 2008. Although occupancy grew by 2 percentage points, to 77.3%, average room rate declined by 8.1% to £116.21.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £43.33 (2008: £48.41) as occupancy dropped by 2.6 percentage points (to 66.5%) and average room rate slipped by 7.1% to £65.16.

Edinburgh fared better, with revpar falling by 7.5% to £72.02 and an average occupancy of 84.9%, higher than London. 

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 30 May declined by 6.6% in London (to £98.52) and by 13.6% in the provinces, to £46.09. Edinburgh hotels saw revpar grow marginally by 0.3% to £69.16.
