Michel Roux Jnr puts beer on the menu

Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jnr has introduced a beer menu at his London restaurant, Le Gavroche.

In February he experimented by serving Liefmans Kriek cherry beer to accompany his spicy seared tuna dish. The tipple proved so popular that he has decided to extend the menu.

Roux said: "In the past beer has often been neglected in top restaurants and perceived merely as a thirst-quencher. I believe that beer should be perceived as a sophisticated, gourmet drink."

The new beers include Kasteel Cru, a Champagne yeast-fermented aperitif from Flanders, Rochefort 8, a strong (9%) pudding-friendly Trappist beer from Belgium and the
well-known Kronenbourg 1664.
