Kent-based brewer and pub operator Shepherd Neame has bought the Plough and Horses freehouse in Cove, Hampshire, from the Spirit Group.
This traditional locals’ pub near Farnborough was part of a package of six quality managed houses to be marketed by Christie & Co. It sold off an asking price of £2m.
The red-brick detached building is one of the oldest pubs in the area, dating back to 1870, and it features low ceilings, open fires, sash windows and stables to the rear.
It has built up a strong reputation for its food and its ales, which have gained the pub Cask Marque accreditation.
Facilities include a public bar, a 53-seat dining room, four-bedroom owners’ accommodation and a large beer garden where food is served in the summer.
