Marriott International is to invest £120m on upgrading nearly 40 of its four and five-star hotels in the UK.

The move, which marks the company’s biggest investment in its UK properties to date, will include the revamping of rooms as well as meeting rooms and ballrooms and in some hotels extend to public areas.

It will comprise 38 properties across the UK and is to be completed next year.

The hotels to be refurbished include London’s Marriott Hotel Regent’s Park, which is to undergo a £10m facelift including its guestrooms, meeting rooms and leisure club as well as its lobby, restaurant and bar. It will also be upgraded with modern wrought iron and glass balconies.

Roger Binks, director of marketing communications at Marriott UK South and Ireland, said: “The programme is reinforcing Marriott’s commitment to its customers and we want to ensure that they’re not only receiving excellence in terms of service but the very best amenities and facilities as well.”

In April a consortium led by Irish Investment Group Quinlan paid £1.1b to acquire 47 Marriott branded hotels. Marriott International continues to run these under a long-term contract.
