Young Chef Young Waiter winners unveiled

The Square restaurant and Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s shared the honours in Young Chef Young Waiter 2007 competition.

At an awards ceremony held last night (15 October) at London’s InterContinental London Park Lane hotel, Simon Christey-French of the capital’s Square was named Young Chef of the Year.

Matthew Mawtus of Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s, London, was named Young Waiter of the Year.

The winners each receive a £2,000 cheque and a week’s study trip to Berlin.

As regional finalists, the pair already enjoyed a trip to visit Champagne Louis Roederer last month.

Second place in the finals, held at London’s Westminster Kingsway College, was Joshua Pelham of The Square for the chefs and Anja Pfuhl of Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxfordshire.

Both finalists win £1,000 a piece and a week long study trip to Piedmont, Italy.

Sinnead Finnegan, also of The Square, came third in the chef competition and Phillipe Bonjean of London’s Ritz hotel was the third place waiter.

Both win £500 and work experience at a Michelin-star establishment in the UK.  

All cash prizes are provided by the Savoy Education Trust.
