Eco-friendly initiatives have been rewarded at the Sustainable Hotel Awards, held at to the 20th annual Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific, at the InterContinental Hong Kong.
The use of recycled and natural materials, sensitivity to the surrounding natural environment and rain collection efforts won the 56-bedroom Six Senses Hideaway Yao Noi in Phang-nga, Thailand, the Sustainable Project Design award.
In the Sustainable Operations category, the 362-bedroom Radisson Plaza Hotel Sydney, Australia, was recognized for its waste, water and energy management efforts, as well as its green education and training programmes.
The Sustainable Destination award went to the 87-bedroom Oberoi, Udaivilas, in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, for undertaking its design and construction in harmony with local traditions and culture, as well as managing a 20-acre wildlife preserve.
Meanwhile, the 30-bedroom Schoolhouse Rental Homes at Mutianyu Great Wall in Beijing, China, carried off the Sustainable Communities award for its dispersed and small-scale development, the creation of employment opportunities and its community outreach programme.
