Pidy wins Gold award for Meringue Crumble at Lunch!

Preview of Pidy's ready-to-use meringue crumble range

Belgian pastry specialist Pidy – which earlier this year announced its plans to expand into non-pastry sectors – is celebrating its third top accolade of the year after scooping a Gold Award at last month’s Lunch! food-to-go-show in London.

The innovation award went to its new Meringue Crumble, first shown earlier this year at IFE where the group scored a Fresh Ideas award for its Mini Cones which went on to win the Food Processing Magazine Product of the Year category last month.

The ready-to-use crumble – for sprinkling over cakes, desserts and tarts – impressed the judges on account of its ‘simplicity of concept’, versatility, instancy and the helpful dispenser which features a flip-open top with a choice of pouring sizes.

Pidy’s UK general manager Robert Whittle promised more crumbles next year to add to the current new line, which also includes Strawberry Meringue Crumble and Speculoos, Dutch spice coffee biscuit that smells of gingerbread.
 
Pidy’s Meringue Crumble was one of nine gold award winners in the show’s Innovation Challenge. All were selected from a shortlist of 15 culled from more than 60 entrants.

Judges included Franklyn Boltman, founder of independent sandwich bar Thanks for Franks; Neville Moon, head of food and beverage at Caffe Nero; David Kitchener, managing director of Essential Café magazine; and the audience.
