The Bar, Entertainment and Dance Association (Beda) has re-branded itself as Noctis to better represent the diversity of its evening and late-night hospitality market members.

Noctis, Latin for "night", was chosen after consultation with Beda members because no acronym came close to “encapsulating the magnificent diversity of the late-night sector”.

The consultation with members also included proposals to work closer with fellow trade body, the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR), which was rejected.

However Noctis said it hoped to work closely with all relevant trade organisations

Current executive director Paul Smith will remain in charge of running the day-to-day operations of the trade body but current Beda chair Paul Kinsey will step down to be replaced by former chief executive Jon Collins.

Collins said: “The idea behind Noctis is to take all the best of what was Beda and forge it into something stronger for the future.  Noctis has an important part to play in shaping many of the many difficult debates around alcohol, the high street and late night sector.”
