Leeds’ Roundhay Park seeks restaurant tenant

The Mansion in Roundhay Park, Leeds

One of the most iconic buildings in Leeds, the Mansion in Roundhay Park, is looking for a new tenant to provide restaurant, café and bar facilities in one of Yorkshire’s more popular tourist destinations.

The Grade II-listed building, which dates back to 1826, was closed between 2004 and November 2007 for an £8m renovation when a proposal to move the site away from its traditional hospitality trade was met with a backlash.

Now its owners, Leeds City Council are looking for “the right kind of company” to run restaurant and function facilities.

Councillor Andrew Carter, Leader of Leeds City Council, said: “It is very encouraging that we have already had enquiries from several interested parties and we would love to hear from as many companies as possible.

“The more interest we have the more chance we have of providing the best quality facility for the people of Leeds to make use of and enjoy.”

Roundhay Park attracts more than six million visitors per year to its 700 acres of parkland on the north-east edge of the city. The Mansion site offers up to 866sq m (9,321sq ft) of floor area, with existing licensed and catering planning consents in place.

Property agents Christie & Co are handling the sale.
