Yo! Sushi gives green signal to traffic light system

Restaurant group Yo! Sushi has become the first chain to adopt the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) traffic-light labelling system.

The colour-coded system aims to help consumers be healthier and more aware of their food’s nutritional value, with fat, sugar and salt content profiled in a brochure available in the restaurant.

A red light means the food is high in something customers should be trying to cut down on, an amber light indicates that the food is neither high nor low in any particular nutrient, and green shows the healthiest option.

Yo! Sushi’s health and hygiene manager, Ian Turner, said: “Yo! Sushi’s decision to adopt the FSA’s colour-coded traffic light approach in our nutritional booklet is another sign of our on-going commitment in helping our customers enjoy a yummy yet nutritious and balanced meal.”

The labelling will not appear on menus at this stage only in the in-store booklets, although restaurant staff have all been briefed about the nutritional information.

Last week Yo! Sushi was sold to private equity company Quilvest.
